Programming

Americans watch roughly 3.5 to 4 hours of television each day. But today’s viewers have become accustomed to watching what they want, when they want it. The traditional model of programming different shows around the clock is becoming less important.

Broadcasters need to adapt to these changing viewing habits. Instead of trying to fill a 24/7 schedule with endless amounts of unique programming, stations can focus on their strongest content and repeat it throughout the day.

We call this Broadcast Social Media.

The concept is simple: create a strong 3- to 4-hour block of programming and repeat it throughout the day. For example, a 3-hour block could begin at 7 PM and then repeat at 10 PM, 1 AM, 4 AM, 7 AM, 10 AM, 1 PM and 4 PM.

This gives viewers the freedom to tune in when it is convenient for them. They can watch the programs they want, come back later for something they missed, or move over to another channel you operate.

The goal isn't to create more programming. The goal is to get more viewers to see the best programming you already have.

This approach also works hand-in-hand with another opportunity: working with content creators instead of trying to produce everything yourself.

There are thousands of creators producing interesting, entertaining and specialized programming for YouTube and other platforms. With permission, a broadcaster can work with these creators to bring their content to a local television audience. The creator gets additional exposure, while the station gets quality programming without having to produce it all in-house.

That can make life considerably easier for a station owner.

We are already developing examples of this approach on our website and are reaching out to even more content creators. You'll find programming ideas ranging from individual programs to complete channel concepts.

Take a look through the site and see what we are developing.

We're just getting started on this journey, so check back often. There will be a lot more to come.
